Estates Volunteer (Portering)

At Community Hospice, we want everyone in our wonderfully diverse community to be able to approach death in the way that suits their values, beliefs and lifestyle. To help maintain a safe, well-presented and efficiently run hospice environment, we’re looking for additional Estate Volunteers with a focus on portering style support.

If you enjoy practical tasks and want to have a tangible impact on your local hospice, this could be the perfect role for you.

What you will be doing

• Assisting staff across the hospice with moving boxes, furniture and equipment
• Helping with room set-ups and resetting rooms after use
• Ensuring rooms remain presentable and reporting any maintenance or cleanliness issues
• Supporting the organisation, labelling and creation of asset lists in cupboards and storage areas, in collaboration with Heads of Service
• Assisting with moving stored items (e.g. from attic to basement) and helping organise or dispose of items as agreed
• Providing general support to the Estates team with additional tasks as required, to help maintain the hospice environment and support the wider Community Hospice

Full training will be provided.

What skills and qualities can you bring

• Reliable and practical
• Able to follow instructions and ensure the safety of yourself and others
• Comfortable with occasional lone volunteering
• Respectful and helpful communication skills
• Good level of physical fitness for manual handling
