Estates Volunteer (Health and Safety)

How you can make a difference

At Community Hospice, we want everyone in our wonderfully diverse community to be able to approach death in the way that suits their values, beliefs and lifestyle. To help maintain a safe, well-presented and efficiently run hospice environment, we’re looking for additional Estate Volunteers with a focus on supporting us with Health and Safety related tasks.

If you have experience in Health and Safety and want to have a tangible impact on your local hospice, this could be the perfect role for you.

What you will be doing

• Fire safety checks (e.g. extinguishers, fire blankets, fire doors)
• General internal and external health and safety checks
• Internal building checks (windows, decoration, room condition)
• External site checks
• Asset tagging and logging of furniture and equipment
• Checking furniture condition and reporting issues
• Basic checking of first aid kits (stock levels, expiry dates, missing items)
• Providing general support to the Estates team with any additional tasks as required, to help maintain the hospice environment and support the wider Community Hospice

Full training will be provided.

What skills and qualities can you bring

• Experience or interest in health and safety
• Reliable and practical
• Able to follow instructions and ensure the safety of yourself and others
• Comfortable with occasional lone volunteering
• Respectful and helpful communication skills
• Reasonable level of physical fitness
