When someone we love is no longer here, the memories we share with them can become even more precious. For Debbie, remembering her husband Mark is about holding on to the life, love and moments they shared.
Mark was Debbie’s husband of 25 years, but he was also her soulmate, her best friend and the devoted dad to their daughter, Amelia.
Family was at the heart of Mark’s life. He loved their holidays in Spain, spending hours in the swimming pool teaching Amelia to swim and making memories together.
When Mark became ill, Community Hospice was there to support him and his family.
Debbie remembers how Mark would smile whenever he heard the nurses’ voices. It was a small moment, but one that has stayed with her.
For Debbie, the care Mark received was about much more than medical support. It was about feeling cared for, listened to and supported through an incredibly difficult time. The kindness shown to Mark also left a lasting impression on Debbie’s dad, Colin.#
One of Colin’s final wishes was for donations to be made to Community Hospice in recognition of everything the team had done for Mark and his family.
Today, Debbie and her family continue to remember both Mark and Colin in meaningful ways.
“Our loved ones will always be remembered. On birthdays. At Christmas. Every year. We’ll continue to support the hospice because of everything they did for our family.”
Debbie’s story is a reminder that when someone we love dies, their place in our lives doesn’t disappear. They remain part of our stories, our memories and the traditions we carry forward.
It’s also a reminder of the difference hospice care can make, not only to the person receiving care, but to the people around them.
At Community Hospice, we’re here to support people and families through some of life’s hardest moments, helping them live as well as they can for as long as they can.
