Finding joy in the little things

Life can change in an instant. Simple pleasures we once took for granted, like walking the dogs, doing the weekly shopping, or connecting with people, can suddenly become difficult or even impossible. Ted, one of our patients, knows this all too well.

“I used to love taking my dogs for a walk,” he shared. “I also used to enjoy doing the weekly shopping for my wife, who I lost 18 months ago. Those little things kept me connected to life and to people, and losing them has been really hard.”

Ted spent many years working as a salesperson, a role that naturally involved talking to people and building relationships. Social interaction was always a big part of his life, which made the isolation he experienced after his loss even more difficult.

Since starting our rehab services, Ted has been visiting our gym guided by our physiotherapist and has completed 10 sessions. He is already noticing a difference and is planning to join our Tea and Talk sessions to reconnect with others and regain the social contact he’s missed.

“The staff are brilliant. They care, they laugh with you, and they make the environment feel welcoming. The rehab sessions have helped me regain confidence in doing things for myself and enjoying life again, even in small ways,” Edward said.

Ted’s story shows the positive impact our services can have. While our rehab services help patients regain independence, our wellbeing services offer ways to connect, socialise, and improve quality of life. From guided exercise and physiotherapy to group sessions and community activities, there are many ways to get involved and feel supported.
