We are delighted to share that over £3,000 was raised for our hospice at Welling United’s special ‘Pink Day’ match on Saturday 18 November and we are incredibly grateful for the support shown by everyone who took part.
The generosity of the local community will help us continue providing free, specialist care to families across Greenwich and Bexley when they need us most. One of the most meaningful parts of the day for us was welcoming a mum and her two sons as VIP guests. Her husband was cared for by our hospice before he died, and the club offered the family a chance to enjoy a relaxed afternoon together.
Afterwards, she told us:
“I want to say a big thanks to you and the team members of the hospice community for the great opportunity accorded me and my boys to watch the match today. My brain felt relaxed and free from many thoughts. I am truly grateful and honoured. Truly I and the boys felt so honoured and loved. Thanks very much Natalie and to your team at the community hospice. Bless you all.”
We were grateful to be part of a wider wellbeing initiative alongside local NHS teams, charities and community organisations, all working together to support residents with health checks, screening information and wellbeing advice. It was also a pleasure to see dignitaries in attendance, including Mayor of Bexley, Cllr Christine Catterall, Dr Winnie Kwan, Clinical & Care Cancer Lead for the Southeast, and Kerry Corrigan from the University of Greenwich.
A huge thank you to the hospice colleagues and volunteers who represented us on the day with warmth and care, and to our much-loved mascot Owly, who brought joy to families throughout the afternoon. Their presence helped remind people of the work we do and the support available to anyone facing a life-limiting illness.
We are deeply thankful to Welling United, Paul Barnes and the entire team for choosing to support hospice care in such a meaningful way. Their commitment to community shines through every part of the day, and we are proud to stand alongside partners who share our belief in compassion, connection and care for every family.
This support makes a real difference, and we are truly grateful.
