Remembering Baroness Rosalind Howells

Today we remember Baroness Rosalind Howells, a cherished patron and long-standing supporter of our hospice, who recently died aged 94.

Baroness Howells dedicated her life to public service and equality, caring deeply for her community. Her compassion and commitment were evident throughout her life, from championing racial justice to supporting local causes, including serving as a patron of our hospice for many years.

During her time as patron, Baroness Howells visited the hospice to meet patients, staff, and volunteers, helping to raise awareness of our work and attending key events. She believed deeply in the power of care, dignity, and compassion at the end of life, values that continue to guide our work every day.

Our hospice’s CEO, Kate Heaps, said:

“It was an honour and privilege to have known Baroness Howells, and when she accepted her patronage of the hospice, I was so grateful. She was an inspiration to so many, and taught me so much, giving me courage to stand up to powerful voices on many issues and particularly to strive for equitable hospice care across our whole community. My thoughts are with her loving family today and may she rest in eternal peace.”

As she is laid to rest today, our thoughts and condolences are with Baroness Howells’ family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
