Meet the Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice Hikers. In November 2024, this amazing team of frontline hospice staff will be swapping their scrubs and uniforms to spend 4 days and 3 nights trekking across the Sahara Desert to raise money for their hospice and to mark our 30th anniversary.
Hailing from all areas of the hospice, the team is made up of staff from the nursing, rehabilitation and bereavement counselling teams, plus colleagues from the fundraising and volunteering teams. On a typical day, you’ll find them on the hospice’s inpatient unit, in the hospital and in the community, delivering vital care and support to patients in the Royal Borough of Greenwich and London Borough of Bexley who have been diagnosed with a terminal or life-limiting condition. People who need compassionate palliative and end of life care.
The team have dedicated their careers to making a difference every day to the lives of the patients, plus their family members who need it the most, and now they are set to go the extra mile to make a real difference by embarking on this fundraising challenge of a lifetime, to support the hospice to raise some of the £6 million it aims to raise annually, to deliver the services that it provides.

This might be helping families to create special last memories with a loved one who is nearing the end of their life, or it may be about supporting people to live as well as they can for as long as they can. Every year the hospice looks after nearly 3,000 patients and in this, our 30th year we want to do our bit to make sure that the hospice can continue to deliver the brilliant care and support, for many more years to come.’
